BTS: Volt EV Charging @ The Woodleigh Mall

Building an electric vehicle (EV) charger in Singapore involves a unique combination of regulatory compliance, innovation, infrastructure integration, and teamwork. In this curated story, we let readers in on a little sneak peek of what goes on behind the scenes of installing the dual-gun 120kW DC charger at The Woodleigh Mall.

The process begins with assessing the location for the charger installation, which includes ensuring access to sufficient power supply and understanding the grid’s capacity at the venue. Suitable locations are also assessed for the wayfinding signages, which are important to guide drivers accurately to the charging station.

Next, the physical installation requires coordinating with contractors, engineers, and electricians to handle electrical works, including trenching (for cable routing), equipment setup, and testing.

On the day of installation, the charger is delivered to the loading bay at the basement car park and carefully unloaded. The project manager then works with the contractors to ensure that the charger is installed safely and correctly.

Once installed, extensive testing ensures that the charger functions properly, including checking for reliability under various load conditions and verifying safety mechanisms such as overload protection and emergency shut-off.

Ongoing maintenance is also vital to keep the chargers operating at peak performance, especially in a humid, tropical climate like Singapore’s, which can affect equipment longevity. The entire process, from planning to activation, can take up to months which involves collaboration across multiple stakeholders, all working toward building a greener future.

To celebrate the launch, there is an ongoing opening promotion till 20 February 2025, where drivers can enjoy charging at just $0.588/kWh. So, do drop by The Woodleigh Mall to charge your EV while you shop and dine!
