EVs are Shaping the Future of Singapore’s Mobility

In Singapore, people used to think owning an EV (Electric Vehicle) is only something for the privileged. Well, the future is here, and the collective will be part of it. EVs will be the new normal, paving the way to a cleaner and quieter environment.

According to Ernst and Young’s 2021 Mobility Consumer Index, more than four in ten (global 41%, Singapore 55%) of the respondents are considering purchasing an EV, which is an increase of 11 percentage points from 2020. It is also reported that 78% of its global respondents (80% Singaporeans) have become more aware and concerned about environmental issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from the Land Transport Authority data has also reflected an increase in EV adoption  – EV sales have increased by 17-fold to 1,740 units in 2021 with Tesla leading the board.

In line with global efforts to combat climate change, the Singapore government has committed themselves to achieving a long-term net zero emissions aspiration under the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Paris Agreement. The nation has since charted ambitious and firm targets to alleviate global warming effects with the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

One of the key five pillars of the Green Plan, Energy Reset, strives to reduce the country’s carbon footprint by using cleaner energy and increasing our energy efficiency. In a bid to green our transport, it was announced during Budget 2020 that Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) would be phased out by 2040. Minister of transport S Iswaran also added that Singapore aims to install 60,000 charging points by 2030 as part of the initiative.

As a charge point operator providing a full suite of services to help businesses and drivers transit to an EV future, Volt is well-positioned to support the EV related initiatives in the Green Plan. We offer a suite of charging ports ranging from a 7kW to 120kW power rating where users can charge their EVs in less than 20 minutes. This provides flexibility for users to choose the type of charging station according to their needs.
